Ordering custom flexible tubing for semiconductor tool hookups, analytical equipment or ultra-pure chemical distribution needs precise specifications. The wrong inner diameter, pressure rating or end connection can cause flow bottlenecks, leaks or contamination. Use this guide to specify your high purity PTFE hose or high purity SS braided PTFE hose.
Step 1: Choose the Inner Core Type
- Smooth-bore PTFE: highest flow, lowest pressure drop, easy drainability and ultra-high cleanliness. Ideal for 3nm UHP gas lines.
- Convoluted (corrugated) PTFE: maximum flexibility and tight bend radii for restricted spaces in OEM tools. See our convoluted PTFE hose.
- Anti-static (conductive) PTFE: essential for flammable liquids or high-velocity gases, to dissipate static build-up.
Step 2: Match Working Pressure and Cover
Non-braided PTFE tubing is limited to low pressure. For higher working pressures, choose a braided hose:
- Single stainless steel braid (304/316): standard for medium to high pressure lines.
- Double stainless steel braid: for high-pressure surges or severe mechanical environments.
- Silicone or thermoplastic outer jacket: added over the braid for easy cleanroom wipe-down and to prevent fraying.
Step 3: Select UHP End Fittings
The connection must match your system's UHP integrity:
| Fitting type | Typical application |
|---|---|
| Metal gasket face seal | UHP gas cabinets and VMB lines |
| Tube adapter / stub | Direct orbital welding to stainless piping |
| Sanitary tri-clamp | Biopharma and high-purity liquid chemical lines |
| Flanged / NPT threaded | General industrial and bulk chemical skids |

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose smooth-bore or convoluted PTFE?
Smooth-bore gives the highest flow and easiest cleaning. Convoluted gives maximum flexibility and tighter bend radii in restricted spaces.
When do I need a double braid?
For high-pressure surges or severe mechanical environments where a single braid is not enough.
Which fitting is standard for UHP gas cabinets?
Metal gasket face seal fittings are the standard for UHP gas cabinets and VMB lines.
